Is it Going the Soccer World Cup Way? Qatar Code Shares With Brazilian Airline
Qatar is the future host of FIFA Soccer world cup while Brazil is the next one! A recent code share agreement between Qatar’s national carrier Qatar Airways and Brazilian airline GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes has brought the countries closer for travelers from the UAE or South America.
Qatar Airways is the first five star rates carrier and after the contract the airline will be able to operate code sharing on flights to Brazilian cities in cooperation with GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes. The code share also means that Qatar and GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes routes can be combined on an itinerary and issued as one ticket at the GDS system. Also, the airline will add its IATA code QR to GOL flights between Sao Paulo and other 47 Brazilian airports, including Campo Grande and flights to Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont. The code share flights are represented by an asterisk on the airline’s IATA code such as *QR in the GDS system.
Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer said:
“We are delighted to extend our reach even further across Brazil, South America’s largest country, through this exciting partnership with GOL and provide passengers with seamless travel options.”
Qatar is a Middle East airline that operates flights from London / Gatwick or Manchester to worldwide destinations via Doha, the capital of Qatar. At present Qatar offers flights to Sao Paulo, the capital of Brazil. Qatar’s flights to Brazil were launched in mid year 2010.
However, the operation awaits approval of Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency and the Brazilian Antitrust Agency as yet.
