Airline Launch commercial partnership agreement with Kenya Airways

Zambezi Airlines and Kenya Airways have entered into a commercial partnership which will see the Zambian carrier starts thrice weekly flights to Lusaka from Nairobi and back Nairobi from Lusaka and also connect passengers to all the major cities served by the Kenyan flag carrier. From 2nd March this year, Zambezi Airlines business and leisure travelers will be able to purchase tickets for travel to Nairobi and from there connect to any of Kenya Airways 50 destinations in Africa, the Middle East ,the Far East,Asia, Europe and America. Zambezi Airlines will operate to Nairobi on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

The two airlines announced their partnership at a colourful launch ceremony held in Lusaka last month and officiated by the Zambian Deputy Minister of Communications and Transport, Mr Mubika Mubika. Zambezi Airlines Chairman, Dr.Maurice Jangulo, said the partnership heralded a major turning point in the brief but eventful history of the airline which only commenced operations as a domestic carrier in July, 2008.

"After months of discussion and planning, we are today pleased to announce that Zambezi Airlines has signed a commercial partnership agreement with Kenya Airways which will see the airline introduce thrice weekly flights between Lusaka and Nairobi with effect from 2nd March, 2010," Dr Jangulo said, "But that is not all.With effect from tomorrow,Zambian business and leisure travellers, will be able to walk into any Zambezi Airlines office and purchase tickets for travel from Lusaka, via Nairobi to virtually any major city in the world, be it in Africa, the Middle East, Far East, Asia, Europe or America."

The chairman explained that thanks to Kenya Airways’s membership of the global Skyteam airline alliance, travellers throughout the world would be able to see Zambezi Airlines’s flight schedules and be able to plan their trip utilizing the most convenient connections possible.

Most of you are aware that Kenya Airways is an award-winning airline which has consistently posted profits even when the major carriers have reported huge financial losses.It is in short, truly The Pride of Africa."Dr. Jangulo said.

In order for Zambezi Airlines to achieve its vision of connecting all the SADC countries,he also announced that the airline has acquired a third Boeing 737-500 series aircraft which would be delivered in three months time.

Representing Kenya Airways management, Ms Rosemary Adogo,the airline’s Area Manager for Southern Africa,said that the partnership between Kenya Airways and Zambezi Airlines will increase connection options around the world for its passengers who will be able to fly to destinations in Africa and the world through the Kenya Airways hub at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Kenya Airways, she explained, serves over three million passengers annually and flies to over 50 destinations worldwide-40 of which are in Africa. The airline operates direct flights to Amsterdam,Paris and London and select destinations in Asia,including Dubai,Mumbai,Guangzhou,Hong Kong and Bangkok.

"I am especially delighted with this development as it will give Zambia access to Kenya’s extensive route network,providing an international hub to the Zambian economy,travelers and providing better connectivity via Jomo Kenyatta International Airport,"added Rosemary who is based in Johannesburg.

Kenya Airways has offered Zambezi Airlines a number of other benefits such as access to its prestigious Pride Centre training facility and its state-of-the art aircraft maintenance base at Nairobi.

The function was also attended by the Zambezi Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Mr Don Macdonald,The Kenyan High Commissioner to Zambia, Mr Lazarous Amoyo,Director of the Zambian Civil Aviation(DCA),Mr Chitalu Kabalika and a number of top corporate managers.
