Hong Kong Wetland Park

Beautifully situated at the northern part of Tin Shui Wai, in Yuen Long, the Hong Kong Wetland Park is one of the most attractive and picturesque destinations of this planet that is frequently visited by all those travellers who grab flights to Hong Kong. It was actually intended to be an ecological mitigation area (EMA) but now it has been transformed into a beautiful and magical area. It occupies the land area of almost 10,000-square-metre that acts as a visitor centre, a 60-hectare Wetland Reserve and Wetland Interactive World.
You will be amazed to see plenty of themed exhibition galleries, a resource centre, an indoor play area (swamp adventure), a souvenir shop, a theatre and many other amusing sites. It is very famous for its slogans that is featured by many places it says ‘’ Unroll the Hong Kong diverse green temptations’’.
It is one of the Millennium projects that was started in 1998 with the actual name as International Wetland Park and Visitor Centre Feasibility Study. With the passge of time, it drew the attention of the world and in 2007 it also won an award from the Urban Land Institute in Asia Pacific Competition. The park has many themed exhibition galleries that showcase the importance of wetland on conservation, civilization and bio diversity and these galleries range from 250 to 1,200 square metres.
The Living Wet gallery is very adorable that provides plenty of information by displaying numerous animals and models and you can also get a deep knowledge about the flora and fauna of this land (the green turtle, mouse deer and False gharial catch the attention of many people). It also features re-created habitats that are specially designed for wildlife and water fowls.
The Wetland Reserve houses the Wetland Discovery Centre that provides with much more information and experience. There are many other facilities in this park such as three Bird Hides, Mangrove Boardwalk, Succession Walk and Stream Walk that are located very close to riverside, mudflat and fish pond that lead travellers to venture the habitats of wild species like the rare Black-faced Spoonbill, Mudskipper and Fiddler Crab.
Don’t miss the apple of public’s eye – the Pui Pui Crocodile that has been brought here from Shan Pui River and attracts a large variety of people specially the children. She was shifted to her landscaped enclosure in august 2009 and now the people can easily see her. It has specially designed to provide this creature a comfortable and healthy living ambiance.
The outdoor area comprises a gigantic pool (almost 70 percent of the total) and it is encircled with plenty of green vegetation that provides basking areas, hiding places and sheltered areas to the reptile. There are many facilities in outdoor region as well that include a weighing scale, a heat pad and infra-red heaters.
