One of the most adorable and amazing events of Japan is Sapporo Snow Festival which is also commonly called as Sapporo Yuki Matsuri. Known to be the best-loved and favourite winter events of the country, it attracts a large variety of people and forces them to grab Cheap Flights to Japan. The most notable and significant sites for this festival are Tsudome , Susukino and Odori Park.  It started in 1950 when a group of school students (almost 6 people), beautifully constructed some snow statues in Odori Park. It actually gained fame when the Japan Self-Defense Forces also took part in building various gigantic structures in 1955. In 1965 the major site of Makomanai base hosted the biggest event that majorly emphasized on offering a spacious land area for children. Very popular as the most distinctive and unique event of Japan, it invited millions of people in 2007 who came to view the breath-taking sites of these snow sculptures in Satoland , central Sapporo, Susukino and Odori Park .

This place is also hosting International Snow Sculpture Contest since 1974 and in 2008 almost 14 teams from around the world, proudly participated in this grand ceremony. The theme varies every year and normally consists of a significant public figure or building. In 2004, it consisted of the statue of famous baseball player Hideki Matsui, who also played for the New York Yankees. It also features plenty of stages that are made out of ice and serve as the host of various musical performances. You can enjoy a huge maze, ice slides as well as many other ice entertainments in Satoland site. Apart from it these magnetic destinations also highly boast of their delicious and mouth-watering food like fresh dairy products, corn, potatoes, fresh seafood and an amazing variety of regional food in Satoland and Odori Park.

Every year, the total number of structures is almost 400, like in 2007, 100 statues were on display in the Susukino site, 32 in the Satoland site and 307 were kept in Odori Park . The TV Tower is the most excellent and ideal place to observe all these enchanting creations. Majority of them are illuminated after dark with sparkling and twinkling lights and the place also houses a museum known as the Sapporo Snow Festival Museum (situated in Hitsujigaoka observation hill in Toyohira-ku). Sapporo presents the image of a spell-casting winter dreamland during these 7 days of February with the blend of white snow and crystal-like ice, so just don’t miss the opportunity and do plan an excursion for Japan.
