Air Zimbabwe Pilot Strike Continues

Air Zimbabwe is going through a tough time as the Pilot Strike has entered into a second week. The carrier that has recently spent millions on upgrading its fleet and also increased its weekly flights to London Gatwick, now has to face another expense that it does not seem prepared to handle.

The Pilots went on strike last September as well protesting to get their arrears paid. As reports indicate they did receive part of the pending payment but not the whole hence, going on a strike again in March. Only this time, the negotiations are far from becoming successful for both parties since the airline does not seem to have sufficient funds and the pilots are no more willing to end the strike on promises. In the ongoing scenario, the ones in biggest loss are the passengers stranded in Zimbabwe and UK. Thought the carrier resumed its regional service between Johannesburg and Harare yesterday, on Sunday but resumption of its full or even half international schedule is still in jeopardy.

As of now, all flights with Air Zimbabwe from London Gatwick airport are non-operational and refunds are being processed for travelers holding cancelled flight tickets. Since the volume of calls and inquires for airline refunds and schedules is huge, the carrier requests travelers to stay patient.

The flights to Harare cancelled during the week and those getting cancelled each day, until the issue is resolved can cause unimaginable damage to the airline’s finances and reputation. All Air Zimbabwe customers are advised to contact the airline for schedule inquiries before leaving for airport .
