As Air Zimbabwe flights continue to cancel this week as well, the airline is organizing its refund process for cancelled tickets.

Firstly, the refund can only be applied when the airline has officially announced that its flights are cancelled for your out bout and/or in bound date OR where at the day of departure or arrival your flights does not fly due to any reasons. These scenarios are more common in case of bad weather, airline or airport union strikes or any political, social or natural disaster.

In case of an airline cancelation with Air Zimbabwe flights the travelers can get their refund back in a week’s time if their reservation was directly made with the airline an no third party, such as consolidators or agents are involved. In this case, the customers of Air Zimbabwe will have to follow up the airline on their own, contact the carrier directly and chase their refunds.

However, where a ticket is being booked through a consolidator or Travel Agency, the customers are required to only contact their travel agent, who will organize, apply and follow up the refund for them. In this case, the refund takes longer and may take up to 6-8 weeks as stated by Air Zimbabwe. However, once the airline pays back refund of cancelled tickets to the agency or consolidator, the agents contact the customers them self in order to release a check or arrange a bank transfer, using the same means of payment as utilized at the time of reservation.

Here please note the refund process takes longer when an agency is involved as it is not paid back according to the terms and conditions of the agency but according the airline’s policy. The agency or consolidator only acts as a coordinator between the airline and the customers both at the time of flight ticket reservation and at the time of refund.

Cancelled tickets may not necessarily be refunded in full where only part of the journey is cancelled or part of the ticket is utilized. Also, there can be deductions where special services are being ordered by the customer such as home delivery of check etc.
