Egypt: Facing Oddities to Revive Tourism, Countries Lift Travel Ban
Following the political, break out in January 2011 as a move to overthrow Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s regime, the Director Tourism is all set to revive the tourism back in the country. A country that had lived in peace was severely hit by the uprisings leaving it in isolation from all the international travel.
Fighting back the odds, Director of Egypt Tourism Office, India Adel El Masry has said “several countries like Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Spain, Austria, have lifted their travel ban to Egypt”. Flights to Cairo have resumed and many airline are operating their full schedules. The tourism industry is fighting to gain back on all the losses that it has incurred in the past few months.
The year 2010 saw a drastic increase in tourism with nearly 14.7 million tourists visiting the country. Nearly, USD $11 billion was generated in the year contributing to the country‘s Gross Domestic Product.
Combating the international media and demonstrating parallels with its economy, Director of Egypt Tourism Office, El Masry, has said "Tourism in Egypt is combating to stability after a long political democratic movement. We are receiving immense support from several nations which have partnered with us to improve the situation by lifting the travel advisories visit to Egypt"
