New Zealand is a beautiful island nation in the South-western Pacific Ocean consisting of two major islands South Island and North Island along with several smaller islands.. The New Zealand Historic Places Trust has registered the building of the museum as a historical place. This museum holds more than 2 million items including items related to Maori and Antarctic exploration. This museum faced some partial damage due to the 2011 earthquake, although it did not face any structural damage and it is estimated that about 95% of the collections remained unharmed. A statue of William Rolleston in front of the building fell off its base after the earthquake the museum was closed for damage estimation. But after a few days it was reopened for the visitors.
