In chaos of flight cancellation, what is the future of Ghana International Airlines?

Future of Ghana International Airlines

The Ghana International airlines remained top in the list of cheapest flights to Accra from London Gatwick, though the glory short lived. In April 2010, soon after the Volcanic Ash crises in UK, Ghana International resumed services along with other airlines. Yet, very shortly, on April 27th; when even the effectees of Volcanic Ash crises were in lines waiting for refunds, the airline almost disappeared from Gatwick Airport, with counters left unattended. The reason, unknown. The news of “Ghana International Flights Grounded”, “Ghana International Bankrupt” and “Ghana International will not fly anymore” kept circling. Although, the news was not confirmed by IATA or the airline it self. This caused a huge apprehension and stress among British and Ghanaian travelers. On the other hand, there still were people who had their flights issued even for December 2010 and January 2011, the tension was incalculable.

The good news that followed in mid May was the airline resumed services yet again. It is almost like a drowning stage, when a person keeps bouncing up and down the water, fighting the waves, either drowned in the bottoms of the sea or learns to swim forever. But the question is how has this uncertainty affected the future of Ghana International Airlines? The Bad News is, the airline has lost trust of a vast majority, there are already numerous ticket cancellations and refunds requested by travelers, who booked for July and December. The airline is no more covered by International Air Transport Association Airline Failure Insurance. In other words, even if the initial down fall wasn’t sufficient, this backing out of booked travelers for coming season has broken the back bone of the airline.

The question still remains, if Ghana International is not able to swim through this hardest crisis, what option do the large number of air traffic between Accra and London will have? Well, one such option is to fly indirect with Air Brussels, the cheapest at the moment. Others include KLM and Air France. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are the only remaining direct flights to Ghana; however the fares can not be as low as those offered by Ghana International.
