2010 world travel awards – Jamaica tops all for the fifth time
Jamaica takes it over and tops all as the top honors in several major categories of 2010 world Travel Awards Americas Gala held this month. The venue for this auspicious occasion was the Sandals Whitehouse European Village and Spa, Kingston,
If we term it as the awards did not take any one by surprise, well it won’t be wrong as Jamaica is not a first time winner for several key categories. It is the fifth year in a row for Jamaica to stand out and shine as Caribbean’s leading destination. However, Jamaica’s tourism board is recognized for the fourth consecutive year and has won in the category of Caribbean’s Leading Tourism Board.
Yet the above two are not the only top categories for Jamaica this year. The country has also won in “Caribbean’s leading Cruise Destination’ too. It has not only the finest beaches and purest turquoise waters or blue lagoons but also the Welcoming people and active tourism board. Another category in which Jamaica also brought home accolades was for the “Caribbean’s Leading Cruise Port (Ocho Rios)”. If you want to go cruising, it is the best place to start exploring Caribbean – the award is totally justified.
Last but not the least, Flights to Jamaica are at a rapid increase each year as more and more tourist fly to this land of natural beauty and manmade wonders coupled at one amazing destination. To cater to these increasing flights and various new flight routes each year Jamaica keeps its airport up to date and classy. The country also won “Caribbean’s Leading Airport” (Sangster International Airport), an award that many countries long for. Also the high rate of elite and business conferences in Jamaica’s cool and calm setting lead it to win the “Caribbean’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre” (Jamaica Conference Centre, Kingston).award too.
Jamaica is the ‘jewel of Caribbean” and we cannot ignore the fact that there was a tough competition in each category. Hopes are high for Jamaica in the coming years as well. This destination has taken the levels of tourism to a whole new level and raised the bar for other competitors.
