Guangzhou will be the New Host for 16th Asian Games 2010 (12 – 27 Nov)

This year, Guangzhou will be the new host for 16th Asian Games expected from November 12th to 27th.  The games, which include competitors from 45 nations across the Asian continent. The 16 day event will revive the memories of excellent Olympic hosting by China in 2008.

The opening and closing ceremonies will be held at Haixinsha Island in the Pearl River, where visitors will be treated to fantastic spectacle along with displays directed by Chen Weiya (assistant directors opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympiad in Beijing). Heats and finals will be taking place in four cities across the Guangdong Province, namely Donguan, Foshan and Shanwei.

In the Asian Games this year, contests in a range of disciplines from track and field to team spots such as soccer and individual entry area including gymnasium sticks will attract the world’s attention. There will also be heats and finals held in a range of exciting Asian disciplines including team sport kabaddi and a selection of martial arts from Taekwondo to Wushu.

The Asian Games provide an exciting opportunity for sports fans to discover the attractions of diverse China. Also, it will encourage more tourism in the country and flights to Guangzhou are likely to get improved. However, the flights will be booked well in advance and so will be the accommodations. Anyone planning on visiting Guangzhou should consider earlier reservations to prevent disappointment.
