Finnair Strike Today: Many Flights to be Effected
Finland’s national airline and largest carrier of the country, Finnair has announced a cabin crew strike starting from 01 p.m. today. However nothing has been said about how long the strike may last.
The strike is expected to seriously affect flights to and from the country with Finnair. The Finnish Cabin Crew Union called for strike after contract talks broke down, according to a statement by Finnair earlier today. The Finnish Cabin Crew also represents employees at the SAS Group’s Blue1.
Due to the strike, it is expected that Finnair’s scheduled services will be highly affected. However, the airline has announced a contingency plan according to which it will be borrowing planes from another airline in order to keep its chartered flights in air. The airline has taken measures and will look forward to operate at least 70% of its flights during the strike period.
For flight delays, disruptions and cancellations the airline has devised a SMS plan, where mobile phone users will be sent messages and updates on their flight status. The airline will also provide service details on its website.
Finnair is a member of Oneworld alliance. Other prominent members of the alliance include British Airways Plc and American Airways.
