Smell of Smoke Reported in Cabin – Air New Zealand Flight Makes About Turn
Earlier today, in the afternoon an Air New Zealand flight, departing from Wellington Airport returned back shortly after take-off as smell of smoke was reported in a cabin. The 66 seat plane was carrying 59 passengers onboard a flight number NZ5043.
Air New Zealand spokeswoman Tracy Mills said: the aircraft is operated by Mount Cook Airline, which is wholly owned by Air New Zealand.
Emergency services were called to the scene including nine fire engines. During the incident, reports also indicate that three passengers were checked by ambulances staff.
However, the flight made a safe landing and no loss of any kind has been reported. The passengers are being accommodated in next available flights to Dunedin. Also, the airline has stated in a recent announcement that the landing was carried out in accordance with the standard procedures, requesting airport services to be on standby and that there was no emergency landing. The plane is being checked by the airline’s engineers to determine the cause of trouble.
